ABOUT:
In Cardiff (South Wales) there is a need for emergency accommodation for rough sleepers whilst long term solutions are being sought. The night shelter fills in the gap in providing safety and refuge for those who do not have the option of temporary or permanent accommodation and continue to struggle with their cycle of homelessness and addiction.
The night shelter is open during the coldest months of the year.
HOW IT WORKS:Night Shelter is a project run by volunteers from across Cardiff and surrounding areas. It offers a warm welcome, hot supper, bed and breakfast in a safe environment to homeless guests. The shelter operates in a different church building each night of the week, with a local team of volunteers taking responsibility for each night. In order for this to run even better - we need more churches to come on board. The more churches on board the easier it becomes with each church doing it maybe once a month. At present each church is doing it once a week.
Each Guest that stays at the shelter receives a large bag with their name on and bedding inside. This bag, along with their belongings is transferred from one shelter to the next ready for the next nights’ stay.
